Personal Growth Series – Skill Acquisition

Welcome to week two of our 12-week personal growth series. We are firm believers that humans can learn anything with enough time and effort! This week we give you a practical approach to learning new skills. S.K.I.L.L. stands for SELECT, KEEP, IDENTIFY, LEARN, and LEAD. We walk you through how to apply each phase to any new skill you want to learn. We also throw out some new skills that might be beneficial for you to consider as well as why it is important to learn new skills. You do not want to miss this episode.

Also, we have BIG news. The Uncommon Wisdom crew is writing a book. We are so excited that we want to give you a copy of chapter 1, even while it is still in preproduction.

Personal Growth Series – RISE Growth Plan

RISE up!  The Uncommon Wisdom crew is pumped!  We are kicking off a 12-week series and it is going to be amazing.  Tonight, we introduce the 12-week series with an episode describing the need for a personal growth plan in all aspects of life, and when those plans are needed.  We introduce R.I.S.E. which stands for Recognize, Identify, Specify, and Execute.  Over the next twelve weeks we will be diving deep into three aspects of life where being stronger makes a huge impact:  Mental, Physical and Financial.  Trust us, you want to check these out.

Also, we often mention resources in our episodes and want to make sure everyone has access to them.  Check out our resources page for links to these items.

MOST Achievement Strategy

Do you have an Achievement Strategy? Do you want to achieve the MOST?

Well the Uncommon Wisdom crew have you covered. In this episode we set the framework based on three distinct needs. One need is that of a busy mother who balances her massive amount of volunteer work while growing, nurturing and creating an awesome family. We also look at the needs for achievement in business and life. M.O.S.T. stands for Mindset, Organize, Serialize and Take Action.

Also, if you want to dive directly into achievement and tactical steps, check out this amazing episode called M.A.P. – Achievement:

Maximize Productivity

Have you ever heard anyone say “I am too busy” or “I work 70 hours a week to get stuff done”?  Both of these are pet peeves of the Uncommon Wisdom crew so we decided to address it head on.  We bust some myth in this episode, as well as give a few pointers on maximizing your time in the office.  We are calling this the 3 M’s to Maximize Productivity. 1. Multitasking is ineffective.  2.  Master your calendar.  3. Minimize distractions.   Leaders, managers, business owners and even people looking for their own personal success really need to check out this episode.

All of the episodes over the last few weeks are intended to align with our M.A.P. series.  If you are just finding the Uncommon Wisdom Podcast and want to understand Mindset, Achievement, and People (M.A.P.) go check out our primer episode from December 30th.

Abundance Mindset

Have you ever heard “the rich get richer” or believed that your situation prevents you from having the success you deserve?  If you have an abundance mindset, then you know those things are simply not true.  If you have a scarcity mindset, then you need to change your thoughts immediately and we are here to help.  An abundance mindset is a belief that there are enough resources for everyone and there is no a limit to what you can accomplish.

If you are just finding the Uncommon Wisdom Podcast and want to understand Mindset, Achievement, and People (M.A.P.) go check out our primer episode from December 30th:

Improve your Tactical Patience

Patience is the ability to accept or tolerate delay, trouble or suffering without a major emotional response.  Tactical patience is the ability to understand yourself and control your patience in any situation.  The Uncommon Wisdom crew has developed an easy to remember process we are calling the 3 Ts of patience.  These 3 T’s are Triggers, Training and Time.  We give you our own triggers and the tactics we have developed over the last 20 years.

This also a good time to have a refresher on Emotional Intelligence (EQ) because nothing exposes the lack of EQ like a negative reaction to something testing our patience.  Check out that episode here.

Do you have grit?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “do you have what it takes?”.  This is a leading question about GRIT and our ability to complete things even when we may not feel like it or when things are hard.  Tonight, we dive into GRIT, how to develop GRIT and how to identify how much GRIT you have.  Statistics tell us, based on a study performed by the US Military Academy, that GRIT is a better indicator of success than intelligence and physical fitness.  One resource we mentioned multiple times was a GRIT score, based on Angela Duckworth’s book, which is a self-assessment hosted by Penn St University.  Go give it a try and let us know how you do.

Criticism vs Feedback

Have you ever been given feedback that hurts more than it helps?  Have you ever received constructive criticism that did not feel constructive at all?  On this episode of The Uncommon Wisdom Podcast, we dive into Feedback vs Criticism.  We want to provide you with the tools on how to effectively provide feedback that builds up the person receiving the feedback instead of breaking them down.  This episode will also help you understand the difference.  Listen in to hear the #1 way, hands down, to start out providing feedback.  This is so simple but will change everything if you do this before giving feedback.

If you remember our M.A.P. series, you will see that this episode dives directly into our Mindset and People.

Satisfaction vs Complacency

Tonight, we dive into satisfaction vs complacency.  Satisfaction is something the Uncommon Wisdom podcast crew believes is important.   Problems begin to arise when satisfaction becomes complacency and complacency is not recognized.  We define the two terms, get really clear on satisfaction as a tool, and provide a clear challenge to everyone that will help them get past complacency.

M.A.P – People

In tonight’s episode, we dive into part 3 of our M.A.P. series and speak directly to People.  There are people in our lives who can help us reach our goals and add value to our lives.  Then we have the people who float in the neutral zone.  Finally we talk about people who do not add value and actually detract from our lives and ability to achieve goals.  We give tips on how to identify the folks you need and how to cultivate that, as well as tips on dealing with the folks in our lives that do not move us forward.

If you are just finding the Uncommon Wisdom Podcast and want to understand M.A.P. (Mindset, Achievement and People), go check out our premier episode from December 30th:
