Coaches and Mentors

Welcome to week four of our 12-week personal growth series. Week one was about developing a personal growth plan, week two we discussed skill acquisition and week three we discussed the super-power called discipline.

If you have all of these under wraps and would like to accelerate yourself, then it might be time to hire a coach. Hiring a coach can be a force multiplier for personal success and growth.

In this episode we discuss the why, when and how to find a coach. We also talk about accountability partners and mentors as resources to leverage.

Give this episode a listen and don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe. Also, please share with just one friend who would get value from this content.

Today is a new day

Today is a new day.  Every day is actually.  Two things are certain about a new day:

  1. Things will happen
  2. We can decide to make things happen

It’s a choice really.  #2 comes from intentionality and creates no anxiety.  #1 comes from lack of planning and creates a mindset that has to deal with the unknown.  When we are intentional with our day, it does not prevent unplanned things from popping up.  The magic is that it is a lot easier to deal with the unexpected, when we have a plan.  Intentionality is like a map; even if we get off track, it is easy to find the path back to where we are going.

Choose to lead with #2 and find that unexpected things happen less.

MOST Achievement Strategy

Do you have an Achievement Strategy? Do you want to achieve the MOST?

Well the Uncommon Wisdom crew have you covered. In this episode we set the framework based on three distinct needs. One need is that of a busy mother who balances her massive amount of volunteer work while growing, nurturing and creating an awesome family. We also look at the needs for achievement in business and life. M.O.S.T. stands for Mindset, Organize, Serialize and Take Action.

Also, if you want to dive directly into achievement and tactical steps, check out this amazing episode called M.A.P. – Achievement:

Maximize Productivity

Have you ever heard anyone say “I am too busy” or “I work 70 hours a week to get stuff done”?  Both of these are pet peeves of the Uncommon Wisdom crew so we decided to address it head on.  We bust some myth in this episode, as well as give a few pointers on maximizing your time in the office.  We are calling this the 3 M’s to Maximize Productivity. 1. Multitasking is ineffective.  2.  Master your calendar.  3. Minimize distractions.   Leaders, managers, business owners and even people looking for their own personal success really need to check out this episode.

All of the episodes over the last few weeks are intended to align with our M.A.P. series.  If you are just finding the Uncommon Wisdom Podcast and want to understand Mindset, Achievement, and People (M.A.P.) go check out our primer episode from December 30th.

We are also doing a giveaway next week for anyone who signs up for our mailing list via www.uncommon-wisdom.com or subscribe to our YouTube channel.  Listen to the episode to find out what we are giving away.   This week’s winner is @sylviafowlersuggs.  We will get your mug in the mail ASAP.

Abundance Mindset

Have you ever heard “the rich get richer” or believed that your situation prevents you from having the success you deserve?  If you have an abundance mindset, then you know those things are simply not true.  If you have a scarcity mindset, then you need to change your thoughts immediately and we are here to help.  An abundance mindset is a belief that there are enough resources for everyone and there is no a limit to what you can accomplish.

We are also doing a giveaway next week for anyone who signs up for our mailing list via www.uncommon-wisdom.com or subscribes to our YouTube channel.  Listen to the episode to find out what we are giving away.

Anchors are Important

In a world where everyone has an opinion and a platform to share that opinion, anchors are important.  If someone tells us (or yells in the comments section on social) that the world is flat, we have enough logic, education and supporting science to not let that bother us.  This is how anchors work.  When an anchor is secure, the ship does not budge.  When the anchor is not secure, every wave, wind gust or current change will move the vessel at its will.  If you are building a brand, leading a change or intend to create something great, you can expect confrontation.  From the cheap seats, a naysayer will say you are wrong or not like what you have to offer.

Your options are:

Respond to them all, take it personal and act defensively every single time, which is exhausting.

Or, know your anchors, set them securely and go in the direction you need to.  On your terms

Anchors can come in the form of core values that you have built, mentors that you trust and feedback from your best customers.  They do not come from internet comments sections, cynics or bad bosses.
